I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, in a working-class environment shaped by immigration, labor, and uneven access to power. Questions about land, development, and who benefits from legal and economic systems were part of my lived world long before they became interests of historical study.
As a first-generation university student, my path into academia was not linear. I worked extensively throughout my education and spent time working in one of western Canada's largest law firms before returning to graduate study, where I found myself drawn to the history of law rather than its practice.
